DM Jammu letter to Army saying “Avoid undue harrasment” surfaces online

A letter has surfaced on Social media hours after Speaker Nirmal Singh lands into a controversial statement claiming Indian Army of harassing locals in Nagrota area due to their Ammunition Depot Setup. In this letter to GOC 16 Core Headquarters, DM Jammu has written that due to installation of gates and other security checks on the roads near Ammunition Depot in Nagrota, locals are facing many problems. He also added that during his inspection he found that these constructions around Ammunition depot are on State land.

In a two page letter, he has also written that Army should avoid such harassment to the locals of the area who are law abiding citizens of the county. He further added that that despite his personal visit to the Station Commander, no action has been taken yet.

In the letter, DM Jammu had also written that if they Army authorities doesn’t initiate action, he will be forced to register Police case against them for construction on State Land. This letter was written on June 08, 2010 by the then District Magistrate Jammu M.K.Dwivedi, IAS.

After this letter emerged, Nirmal Singh seems to have got some relief from all corner criticism; Sources in party told Fast Kashmir that Party has also taken the due cognizance of the whole episode but also termed this as personal matter of Dr. Singh.
