Srinagar, May 14: Police on Monday used force in a bid to disperse teachers after they tried to march towards the Jammu and Kashmir Secretariat.

Around half a dozen protesting Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers sustained injuries after being cane charged by J&K Police here on Monday. Also, dozens of teachers were detained by Kothi Bagh Police after teachers tried to march towards Jehangir Chowk for civil secretariat ‘Gherao’. As the teachers tried to march towards civil secretariat, the police party reached on spot and bundled dozens of them in police vehicles and lodged them in Kothi Bagh Police station. The police also used water cannons to thwart teachers protest march towards civil secretariat.

The teachers were protesting against the inordinate delay adopted by the government in de-linking SSA teachers’ salary from funds received from government of India. Hundreds of teachers had assembled in Pratap Park Srinagar to press for their demands.
