Restrictions imposed for 2nd consecutive day in Srinagar areas

Death anniversaries of Molvi Farooq, Gani Lone on Monday

Srinagar, May 20: Authorities imposed restrictions in several parts of Srinagar for the second consecutive day on Sunday a day ahead of “Eidgah Chalo” called by Joint Residence Leadership (JRL) on the eve of the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Ab Gani Lone on Monday.
The restrictions have crippled normal life in almost all the old parts of Srinagar city.
Witnesses said that police and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed on roads in several Srinagar areas including Nowhatta.
They said that forces had erected barricades on all the entry and exit points to thwart attempts of protests tomorrow on the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Ab Gani Lone.
Locals in Rajouri Kadal and Nowhatta areas of old Srinagar city said that contingents of police and paramilitary CRPF arrived early Sunday morning and imposed strict restrictions on the movement of the people forcing them to stay indoors.
Notably, Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq was killed in 1990 and Ab Gani Lone was killed in 2002 when the 12th anniversary of Farooq was being commemorated at Eidgah in Srinagar. (KNS)
