Restrictions have crippled normal life
Srinagar, May 20: Law enforcing authorities on Sunday imposed restrictions in old parts of Srinagar city for the second day in running a day before “Eidgah Chalo” called by Joint Residence Leadership (JRL) on the eve of the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Ab Gani Lone tomorrow on Monday. The restrictions have crippled normal life in almost all the old parts of Srinagar city.
Police and paramilitary CRPF contingents deployed in strength almost in all the old parts of Srinagar city including Nowhatta and have erected Barricades on all the entry and exit points to thwart attempts of protests tomorrow on the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Ab Gani Lone.
In a sharp reaction to the remarks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Kashmir Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq took to micro blogging social networking website Twitter and said: “Leadership under detention while downtown continues to be put under curfew & restrictions! Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal completely sealed and barricaded ! Repression for the sake of “Development” The new mantra for Kashmir resolution !”
Locals in Rajouri Kadal and Nowhatta areas of old Srinagar city said that contingents of police and paramilitary CRPF arrived early Sunday morning and imposed strict restrictions on the movement of the people forcing them to stay indoors.
It may be recalled here that Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq was killed in 1990 and Ab Gani Lone was killed in 2002 when he 12th anniversary of Farooq was being commemorated at Eidgah in Srinagar. (KNS)
