Shopian Police launches drive against narcotic drug cultivation

Srinagar, May 26: Continuing its drive against narcotic drug cultivation, Shopian police destroyed about 25 Kilograms of poppy plants in Malibugh area of Imamsahib.
Acting on specific information about cultivation of Poppy Straw, Shopian Police along with Executive Magistrate Imamsahib raided the house of one person namely Manzoor Ahmad Khanday son of Khalil Khanday resident of Village Malibugh Imamsahib. During the raid, poppy straw plants cultivated in the lawns of the compound were severed and destroyed on the spot.
A case FIR number 166/ 2018 under section 8/15 NDPS stands registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up.
Shopian Police advised all those who have cultivated Poppy Straw plants/ Bhang anywhere in district Shopian, to destroy the same on their own, failing which they shall face strict action under law. The drive will continue to eradicate this menace.
