Survey is to estimate indicators of incidence and prevalence of disability


New Delhi, Jun 26: The Field Operations Division of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Srinagar under the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation, government of India is going to start NSS 76th Round for the period of sin months from July 2018 to December, 2018 which is earmarked for the collection of data on “Persons with Disabilities, and Drinking water, Sanitation, hygiene and Housing Conditions”. The three days Regional Training Conference (RTC) is organised by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operations Division , regional office Srinagar to import training to the employees of the National Sample Survey Office and the employees of the Directorate of Economic and Statistics Jammu and Kashmir from 25th June, 2018 to 27th June 2018. The Regional training conference was inaugurated by D.P Mondal, Director General (Surveys) of NSSO.
Mondal Director General (Surveys) NSSO union Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation, government of India said in his inaugural address that the emphasis the quality of the data to be collected in the selected households in rural and urban areas. He also advised all the employees to take deep interest to understand concepts and definitions of 76th round NSS survey so that there will be not any difficulty in the field during the collection of data. Further Mondel stressed on the need for inclusion of Technology and Publicity in the survey matters as the results thus obtained will be far better and improved.
Altaf Hussain Haji (ISS) Director, National Sample Survey Office Regional office Srinagar said in his address introductory address that the survey of Persons with Disabilities is to estimate indicators of incidence and prevalence of disability, cause of disability, age at onset of disability, facilities available to the persons with disability, difficulties faced by persons with disability in accessing public building/public transport, arrangement of regular care giver, out-of pocket expense relating to disability and gave the overview of the Surveys. He further says that the main object on basic requirement of human well-being such as information on dwelling unit along with availability and access to the facilities like drinking water, sanitation, electricity and micro environment surrounding the house like drainage arrangement, problems of flies and mosquitoes are important determinants of overall quality of living condition of the household members.
The address of Amit Joyati Ray Deputy Director General said that various agencies in India and abroad are utilizing the NSS data for estimation of poverty, construction of price indices and assessing impact of various programmes on pattern and level of household consumption expenditure, employment-unemployment situation, condition of farmers, migration, utilization of health and education services, etc. Further Roy stressed the young officers of NSSO to take deep interest in maintaining the quality of the data collected.
