Protests erupt in Banihal after forces’ vehicle hits pedestrian

Banihal, June 14:  Government Forces resorted to aerial firing after scores of youth attacked their vehicle with stones in Banihal town of Jammu and Kashmir. Locals pelted stones after Forces’ vehicle hit a pedestrian.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that a speedy Forces vehicle hit a pedestrian near highway town of Banihal that sparked anti-India and anti-forces protest. The locals encircled the vehicle and tried to thrash the men in uniform. Sensing trouble, Forces resorted to aerial firing that created panic in the town.

Witnesses added that locals regrouped and pelted stones on the vehicle. The clashes continued for hours together while shopkeepers lowered their shutters. Over six persons were injured in the clashes.

Locals alleged that instead of feeling sorry for the victim, Forces personnel left him alone and tried to flee from the spot. A police official said that matter was resolved amicably. (CNS)
