Sumo drivers accuse Union President of fraud, Stages protest

Srinagar, June 29: Scores of Sumo Drivers from frontier Kashmir Kupwara Friday staged a protest accusing Sumo Owners Association President of fraud and embezzlement of money.

The Sumo drivers who assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar alleged that the President of Sumo Owners Association Kralpora Kupwara along with his office bearers have embezzled lakhs of rupees and they are not ready to show the accounts particularly Balance Sheet to the drivers.

“This Sumo Stand accommodates over 250 vehicles and every driver has to pay Rs 50,000 as member ship fee that has been deposited with the incumbent Union president. Besides every Sumo driver pays him Rs 20 on daily basis,” they said and alleged that this president with the help of Secretary, Vice President and two office bearers have embezzled all the money and have distributed it among each other.

“We approached Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and filed a complaint against him. The Deputy Commissioner ordered an audit, however, he on the one or the other pretext doesn’t appear before the audit committee. We want a thorough probe so that facts will surface,” the protesting Sumo drivers told CNS.
