Says Police verifying role for recovery of weapon, DGP says will get the killers
Srinagar, Jun 15: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspect in senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Daily Rising Kashmir, Shujaat Bukhari’s gruesome murder case.
Bukhari was killed on Thursday evening at Srinagar Press Enclave after he came out from his office.
Addressing a hurriedly called presser at Police control Room (PCR) here, Inspector general of Police (IGP), S P Pani informed reporters that one suspect has been arrested and police is verifying his role for the recovery of the pistol from the site of incident.
Informing that the investigation has been started in the case, IGP Kashmir Range said, “We have started investigation in this regard while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DIG CKR has been constituted to investigate the matter.”
Pani said that the fourth suspect in the murder case of Shujaat Bukhari was arrested and is being questioned. “We have arrested a suspect in murder case of Shujaat and his role for the recovery of the pistol has been done. Investigation of the case is going on,” Pani said.
He said that they are looking into every aspect of the murder case of Shujaat who was assassinated on Thursday evening at Srinagar’s press enclave.
“At this stage we are investigating the role of the fourth suspect, who was seen picking up the weapon from the spot and vanishing,” he said further, adding “The picture is in public domain and it can be seen that he stood there, attempting to retrieve the weapon.”
Earlier, police released a video of a bearded youth who was seen ‘helping’ the injured in Bukhari’s car after attackers fired upon the senior journalist and his two PSOs.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP), S P Vaid said that “we will get the killers.” (KNS)
