Srinagar, June 4: An unidentified infiltrator claimed to have killed by the army in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district yesterday was on Monday buried in a local graveyard.

Official sources told GNS that the body of the slain militant was recovered yesterday late in the afternoon by the joint team of army’s 4/4 GR and BSF 103 bn.

The body was later handed over to police and was buried in a graveyard with the help of local Auqaf committee near Higher Secondary School Keran today in the afternoon.

When the alleged militant was being buried, the locals suspected that he might have died two to three months before and asked authorities to look into it.

Pertinently, an army official had said that a joint team of army’s 4/4 GR and 103 bn BSF posted near Ustad Post adjacent to Manjeet Post in Keran sector along the Line of Control (LoC) noticed some suspicious movement near the fence today in the afternoon.

“The army fired some shots which were retaliated by the infiltrators. The militants fired indiscriminately and in the gunfight that ensued, an infiltrator was killed so far,” he had said.

The official had said that the body of the slain has been recovered along with an AK-47 and four magazines from the gunfight spot. “We are ascertaining his identity and outfit affiliation,” the official said. (GNS)
