Civilian killings in Kashmir spark shutdown in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, July 12: A shutdown was observed in Kishtwar district against Kashmir civilian killings.

  Shops, educational institutions and business establishments belonging to Muslim community remained shut. The call for shutdown was forwarded by Islami Markazi Majlis Shora against the unabated civilian killings across Kashmir.

       Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmad Kichloo said that shutdown was observed to register a protest against the unabated civilian killings in Kashmir valley by government forces. It is also to express solidarity with the people living in the Kashmir valley, he said.

    A number of civilians have been killed in Kashmir this month. On July 7, Shakir Ahmad Khanday (22) son of Muhammad Hussain Khanday, Irshad Ahmad (20) son of Abdul Majeed and Andleeb Jan (16) daughter of Ali Muhammad were killed in Hawaroo Redwani area of Kulgam. Some of the youth who lost their lives from past couple of days included Ubaid Manzoor of Nadihal Baramulla, Tamsheel Khan of Vehil Shopian and Khalid Gaffar Malik of Thregam Kupwara. (CNS)
