Community volunteers gearing up to respond flood threat
Team is monitoring situation, ready to provide help on ground: Project coordinator

Srinagar, Jul 05: Community disaster management volunteers and CBO’s members promoted by CSSS J&K and Caritas India under SHIRKAT project in district Pulwama are monitoring the flood situation and are gearing up for response to any flood threat in the area especially in Jehlum River belt.
Days before, the government sounded flood alert in South and Central Kashmir after the after the water in River Jehlum was flowing above the flood mark at Sangam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district due to heavy rains.
The youth from Reshipora ullar, Ghottokuna Gadhanjipora, Shaltokuna, Khandaypora, Mohanviji, Dougham and Gulbugh district Pulwama who are part of these village disaster management teams have mobilized themselves and started early warning, community preparedness process and strengthening the embankments of the local rivulets.
According to Altaf Lone, Project coordinator the team is monitoring the situation and is ready to provide help on the ground to government and community groups for responding to the flood situation.
“We have around more than 200 volunteers ready to meet any eventuality,” Lone said. (KNS)
