Srinagar July 30:  Lamenting at authorities and expressing his grave concern over the use of “excessive force” against innocent civilians and youth, Hurriyat Conference (G) general secretary Gh Nabi Sumji on Monday said that “intimidations and resorting to repressive and coercive measures and inflicting atrocities on innocent people is highly deplorable and won’t force people into submission”.

In a statement issued to GNS, Hurriyat leader said that during CASO, youth were “mercilessly thrashed, subjected to worst humiliation, their mobile phones snatched and scrutinized”. “This is worst type of arrogance and nowhere on earth such type bullying ever existed,” he said.

“Youth are being detained on fake charges,” he said and strongly condemned the “rampant use” of PSA and lodging countless FIRs against youth to prolong their “illegal” custody, saying it is the direct assault on civil liberty and fundamental rights of common masses.

“Denying liberty, dignity and subjecting to humiliation, tantamount to gross human rights violation,” Sumji said and appealed international organisations for human rights to take cognizance.

Strongly criticizing NIA, Hurriyat (G) blamed the agency for “harassing” the resistance leadership, saying the raids on the residence of incarcerated leader Syeda Asiya are highly deplorable and unfortunate. (GNS)
