Influential hotelier causing delay in tendering and outsourcing of maintenance of Pahalgam Golf Club

Srinagar, July 28: Tendering for outsourcing of the Golf maintenance and its club building at picturesque Pahalgam hill station of Kashmir has been unnecessarily delayed from last one year by the Department of Tourism.

Authoritative sources told news agency CNS that the delay is being caused to favour an influential hotelier of Pahalgam who is known to be closer to every party and politician in power.

This hotelier who is an established encroacher at almost all the tourism spots of Kashmir according to sources had developed very close friendship with the top official of Tourism Department in the previous Government and used to throw tactful entertaining parties at Pahalgam specifically in return of the huge favours and perks which included the out of way allotment of the Golf course of Pahalgam along with its club building the tenders of which were mysteriously delayed because of the influence of this influential hotelier.

Some of the officials from the department on the condition of anonymity said that they had kept all the documentation and other necessary procedures ready but to their utter surprise this process was delayed multiple times without any reason and they finally found that delay is being caused to help this influential hotelier.

“We appeal to the Tourism Department and Governor Administration to initiate an enquiry and find out the truth behind this delay,” said a couple of traders and civil society members of Pahalgam.

Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority Mr Simnani admitted that there are some influential people who are causing delay but added that he will somehow get the job done in coming days.

“I have again submitted the data with the new Director who is the head of the outsourcing committee. I hope this time there will be no delay,” he said.

Director Tourism, Tasaduq Jeelani couldn’t be contacted for his comments. (CNS)
