Srinagar, July 16: Two army soldiers were injured in an ongoing operation near Safawali Gali along Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police sources told GNS that the encounter broke out near Safawali Gali adjacent to Batpora forests after a joint search party of 10 JAKLI, 57 RR and 41 RR challenged the movement of a group of infiltrators during pre-dawn hours today.
The firefight continued intermittently till today morning, the officer said.
Police sources said that a militant was killed during the operation, however, his body could not be retrieved so far due to the apprehensions of firing from the other part of Kashmir.
They said that two soldiers namely Riflemen Adil Hussain and Tawseef Ahmad of 10 JAKLI have received injuries and have been evacuated to military hospital for treatment. “The condition of both the soldiers are stated to be stable”.
Earlier, an army official based in north Kashmir also confirmed the killing of the militant.
Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said that the operation in the area is underway. He said that so far no militant has been killed in the operation. (GNS)
