Qayoom Wani among others detained, teachers urge authorities to fulfill their demands

Srinagar, Jul 17: Authorities on Tuesday used water cannons to foil the protest march of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, protesting over the fulfillment of their demands including implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendations.
Scores of SSA teachers were detained by the police after they started their march from Sher-e-Kashmir Park here to Raj Bhawan.
The SSA teachers in large number under the banner of Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) headed by Ab. Qayoom Wani accompanied by leaders of TJAC Gazi Ab. Aziz, Ganesh Khajuria, Vinod Sharma, Shah Fayaz, Jamait Ali Aga, Javid Iqbal and Qayoom Sanayi assembled at SK Park here to press the government over their demands including the implementation of7th pay commission recommendations.
The teachers raising slogans in favour of their demands urged the governor N N Vohra led administration to fulfill their demands at an earliest so that the teachers could heave a sigh of relief.
The protesting teachers while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that the government is forcing them to face hardships as their demands were not fulfilled so far.
“The erstwhile government had promised us that our demands will be fulfilled soon but unfortunately all the assurances proved hoax as the PDP-BJP bonhomie came to end. Now, we urge the Governor led administration to put up our demands and fulfill our demands at earliest,” the SSA teachers said.
Meanwhile, Wani and other leaders while addressing the protesting teachers urged upon Governor and Advisors B. B. Viyas, Vijay Kumar Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie and Chief Secretary B. V. R Subramaniyum for their immediate intervention to implement the 7th pay commission on SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters.
Wani asked the govt not to test the patience of teachers.
While talking to KNS, Wani said that if the govt would not implement 7th pay commission on SSA RMSA teachers and masters and delink their salary with state sector, TJAC will intensify the struggle for which an emergency meeting of general counsel of TJAC shall be called on 21st July 2018 to decide the future course of action and the responsibility shall lie on the Govt.
Meanwhile, the protesters later tried to march towards Raj Bhawan here.
As soon as they reached near flyover, police swung into action and used water cannons to disperse the agitating teachers.
