Tral, July 13 : The residents of Razak-Shah Pushaad in Tral are up in arms against Muncipal committe authorities as medical catastrophe could be in offing as the ‘open air dumping’ of garbage could lead to different diseases in the area.

The areas around the open dumping site including Chewa, Haaina, Razaq shah, are the worst effected and as the summer sets it ‘problems will aggravate as foul smell would make it difficult for people to even venture out’.

Locals are blaming that Municipal Committee has failed to redress their problems.

People fear that medical epidemic might be coming in the adjoining areas and are concerned that the nearby areas might become the place where ‘dogs will attack the children who usually come to play there’.

Water body called ‘Watal ara’ runs near the site which is often used by the villagers to wash clothes and people generally go to swim.

The locals expressed resentment against Muncipal committe authorities and demanded immediate shifting of Dumping site from ‘Pushaad Razaq Shah’ to any other abandoned area.

Executive officer Tral Municipal committee Mohd Ismail told that they are dumping the garbages and other wastes in the area from last four years as it is the outskirt and is official site for dumping.

He however said that department is continuously digging new trenches for dumping near the site to keep area free from stinking.
