Food and supplies employees threaten of intensifying protests if demands not met before Eid

Srinagar, Aug 13: Hundreds of food and supplies department employees on Monday held a demonstration at the director office here and threatened to intensify the protests if their demands are not fulfilled before Eid.

The protests led by president Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Farooq Wachi and Abdul Qayoom Beigh said the department is “playing tricks” with them.

“The issue of pay anomalies is lying from years and government is doing nothing. A high-level meeting had been held under the then CAPD minister and so many historic decisions were taken but none of the decisions has been implemented so far; instead the powers are being misused by promoting junior-most storekeepers to supervisors which is gross violation of rules and the rights of senior employees are being marred,” they said.

They said bills worth lakhs on account of loading/unloading are pending since years. Several employees have been retired but their bills of loading-unloading are yet to clear, they said.

“In the high-level meeting on March 3 this year, it was decided to include fair price shop dealers, hamals, football players in SRO 520, but now the government says it is not possible thereby violating its own decisions,” the protesting employees said.

“Now the CAPD Employees Association has decided to intensify the protests if the government doesn’t solve their problems before Eid,” they said and appealed Governor, advisors to Governor, Chief Secretary and Divisional Commissioner to personally intervene in solving their issues. (GNS)
