Bandipora, Sep 22: Five non-locals militants killed in Sumlar Bandipora encounter here in North Kashmir have been buried at graveyard in Uri town of Baramulla.
Non-local militants are usually buried in silence either in Uri or Sheeri Barmulla. Authorities prohibited locals from burying the foreign militants in local grave yards after tens of thousands of locals participated in the funeral procession of Lashkar-e-Taiba Commander Abu Qasim in South Kashmir way back in 2015.
SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulifkar said that the encounter that had started on Wednesday culminated on Friday night with the killing of five militants. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. The officials said that slain militants were affiliated with militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. “We have sent the bodies of militants to Uri for proper burial,” he added.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed on Saturday in north Kashmir’s Bandipora against the killing of these five militants.
All shops and other business establishments remained closed while public transport also remained badly affected due to the shutdown. (CNS)
