Hurriyat (G) activist shot dead in Sopore in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 8: Unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead a Hurriyat (G) activist in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Reports said that unidentified gunmen fired upon Hakim-ul-Rehman Sultani, son of Moulvi Nizamudin outside his home in Reshipora Bomai.

He was immediately shifted to Sopore hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Sultani was affiliated with Hurriyat (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani and was recently released from jail.

Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the slain at his native village in Bomai.

An eyewitness said thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers. He said people from nearby villages took part in his last rites.

The slain was later laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans.

Sultani who is survived by his wife and four daughters was released a couple of weeks ago after serving two years in a jail in Kupwara on charges of stone-pelting. (GNS)
