Terming his arrest as ‘an act of sheer vengeance’, Hurriyat (G) in a statement issued to KNS expressed anguish on the rampant use of police force, which curbs the civil liberty of the detained person without any ‘legal trail and justification’.
Denouncing the police action, Hurriyat (G) regretted that “freedom of expression is a distant dream in Jammu and Kashmir under the prevailing martial law like situation where people get killed, maimed and incarcerated on one pretext or the other.”
“Under well-thought plans, administration is creating a scare and appalling situation in nook and corner of the state and harassing people to ensure their participation in upcoming elections,” Hurriyat (G) said.
Hurriyat (G) condemned state authorities for unleashing arrest spree and said that “it is just to pressurize people and drag them to polling booths. It is not a democratic process.”
“Arrests on large scale have divulged that it is simply a drama, masterminded by forces,” Hurriyat (G) said.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani expressed deep grief over the sad demise of mother of Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl and Farooq Ahmad Shawl and extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
Geelani expressed condolence and prayed for heavenly abode for the deceased and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss
