Soldier injured in firing near LoC in Tanghdar

Srinagar, Sep 22: A soldier was injured in the ongoing gunfight with militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.

A police officer told GNS that army’s 20 JAT challenged the movement of a group of militants near Eagle Post along the LoC early on Saturday.

After being challenged, the infiltrators opened fire on the forces triggering off an exchange of gunfight which lasted for few minutes, he said.

After a lull, the firefight resumed and a soldier was injured who has been hospitalized, the sources said.  Army has also rushed more reinforcement to the area, the sources added.

An army spokesman based in Kupwara said that alert troops manning the fence foiled the infiltration bid today in the morning.

He said that the operation is underway. (GNS)
