Srinagar, Oct 26: The district administration Srinagar on Friday imposed restrictions in Srinagar parts to thwart any possible protests called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the recent killings in Kashmir.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for post Friday prayers protests against the recent killings.
In response to the call, the district administration Srinagar imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Maharaj Gunj, Khanyar and others.
Witnesses said that a huge deployment of forces was deployed on the roads in the restriction bound areas today.
Meanwhile, on the call given by JRL, the protest rallies were carried out at scores of places including Sarai Bala, Wanganpora Eidgah and others.
Besides, authorities continued to disallow the people to offer mandatory congregational Friday prayers for the third consecutive week and 16th week of the year at the historic Jamia Majid here in Old City area of Srinagar.
Witnesses and locals said that all the four gates of the Jamia Masjid remained closed for a day.
Notably, the Jamia Masjid remained closed for Friday prayers from last three consecutive weeks here.
Moreover, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continued to remain under house detention.
Mirwaiz as per the Hurriyat leaders was not allowed to lead Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid here for the third consecutive day.
Meanwhile, a top police official said that the situation remained peaceful and under control throughout the day.
