Excise officials foil bovine smuggling bid at Lakhanpur

Srinagar, Oct 31:  Continuing with the drive against smugglers, the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur foiled a major smuggling bid.

The Excise Department in a statement issued to GNS said that its officials on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday nabbed a vehicle carrying five bovine animals entering into the state.

The vehicle bearing registration number JK02CA-2836 type Mahindra Bolero while trying to enter into the state at around 1 am-midnight was intercepted by alert Sub Inspector at Car Jeep Counter Manzoor Ahmed, it said.

The statement said that on his instance, the excise team chased and caught the vehicle near Maggar Khad.

In the instant case, the ever-alert staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur nabbed the vehicles and foiled the attempt of illegal import of bovines, it added.

The whole operation was conducted by the team of excise department headed by Excise & Taxation Officers, Varinder Gupta, Aamir Ayaiz Rather along with sub-inspectors Kanwaljeet Shan, Manvinder Paul Singh, Manzoor Ahmed and excise guards Mohd Pervez, Naveen Kumar under the direct supervision of Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur.

The vehicle has been handed over to the Station House Officer, Police Station Lakhanpur for further necessary action under the law.

The Excise Commissioner, J&K Government, Talat Parvez Rohella appreciated the efforts of the excise staff in foiling the major bid to smuggle bovine animals and enjoined upon them to work with more zeal and in coordination with other departments and agencies.
