Multiple purpose health workers stage protest in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 16: Scores of multiple purpose health employees working in the health department today held a protest here in this capital city demanding promotion and hike in their pay scale.

Reports reaching Global News Service (GNS) said that scores of multiple purpose health employees of the health department today morning converged at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and staged anti-government demonstrations. Shouting slogans, the protesters said that the employees were not being promoted despite serving the department for over two years.

“From 26 years, we have not been promoted. All categories of the health department get due promotions barring multiple purpose employees,” Raja Begum from Pulwama told GNS.

She said that even the sweepers get promotions but the qualified and trained multiple purpose employees have been left out.

“It’s because of us that all national programmes are successfully implemented. We want technical grade and promotions which we deserve,” she said.

The employees threatened to intensify stir in case the government doesn’t fulfil their ‘genuine’ demands.

“We will stop well-baby clinic. Immunization and other health care programmes will be stopped,” the protesters said, adding “Our pay scale should be upgraded as per 1992 recruitment rules and our promotions should also be made,”
