Sopore, Oct 26: Two militants and an army soldier were killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
The soldier identified as Lance Naik Brijesh Kumar of 22 RR, who was injured minutes after the Pazalpora village encounter in the Sopore area started, succumbed at the Army Base Hospital in Srinagar.
The bodies of the two militants were yet to be recovered and identified, police said.
The Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had launched the joint operation early in the day after receiving specific inputs on militant presence.
Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any.”
Authorities have ordered all schools and colleges in Sopore town to remain shut for the day. Internet services have also been suspended as a precautionary measure.
