Srinagar, November 09: With the election of Junaid Azim Mattu as the Mayor and Sheikh Imran as the Deputy Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday after the results of the recent ULB elections were declared on October 20.

The elections were held after a long gap of 13 years which finally resulted in the formation of Mayor of SMC and raising the expectations of the people of city.

Junaid Mattu on Thursday, visited various areas shortly after taking the charge as the Mayor including the Dargah and the Naqshabandi Sahab shrines to take the routine of the municipal facilities and pay homage at the shrines.

Mattu also directed the municipality officers of SMC to check availability and upgrade the services the areas.

While Talking to Kashmir News bureau Showkat Ahmad Haji, a resident of Gassi Mohalla Safa Kadal said, ” we are suffering from past seven years due to lack of a proper community hall.” It’s been seven years since the construction has been started, yet not completed, he said.

Another local, Muhammad Sidiq Gojree said that “they have been continuously visiting their ward offices for last six years but no one looked into the matter.”

Requesting the government and especially the Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal corporation to take matter seriously he said ,” We don’t have space around our homes and we need this marriage hall, we feel ashamed whenever the guests visit our place due to the lack of cleanliness around the area.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor, Sheikh Imran on Tuesday interacted with the staff of SMC and had a discussion on some important issues and assured full support to Daily wagers employees.

The Responsibility of the Municipal corporation is to work towards the welfare and interests of the general public and to resolve the issues faced by them by providing the essential services to the people of that district/area which includes hospitals, water supply, drainage, roads, market places, solid waste, street lightening etc.

The Mayor plays an important role in the implementation and the assurance of proper functioning of the departmental organisation.

Interesting to see that after the gap of 13 years what would be outcome of Mayor and deputy mayor (KNB)
