Bandipora, November 29: 34.6% percent polling was recorded in Bandipora district of northern Kashmir on Thursday in the fifth phase of Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The polling for the fifth phase of Panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir began Thursday morning under tight security arrangements.
Reports reaching KNO that voting will take place at 2,512 polling stations out of which 769 are in the Kashmir division and 1,743 in Jammu division. “The polling began at 8 AM and will end at 2 PM.”
A total of 848 polling stations have been categorised as ‘hyper-sensitive’ – 755 in Kashmir and 93 in Jammu division. The volatile Pulwama district of south Kashmir has recorded 0.2% voting till midday while the adjacent Anantnag has witnessed 6.7% voting. However Kupwara district has recorded as 30.7% voting highest in the Valley while in its Sopore area it is recorded as 32.90%.
Meanwhile, Amid massive clashes thousands of people attend last rites of Slain militant at Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.
Reports and eyewitnesses told KNO that people in thousands assembled at Iqbal Market Sopore to participate in the funeral prayers of Sopore militant.
Slain Mehraj ul Din Sofi alias Marouf was killed along with Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naveed Jatt in a gunfight with government forces at Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.(KNO)
