Srinagar, November 08: Slowdown work over an erection of bridge between Pantha Chowk and Karnabal forcing residents to cross the river Jhelum by boats.
The residents affected due to absence of bridge include Pantha Chowk, Karnabal and its many adjacent areas.
Everyday students, employees, student and women’s have to wait for the boats to ferry them across the banks, states a local commuter.
“More than three to four hundred people cross the river through boats and rest of people are forced to cover long distance to reach other side of river bank through bridge,” local resident adds.
A student Suhail Ahmad says the bridge work is pending from last one year. He states sometimes Crossing River through boats creates chaos among commuters due to availability of lonely boat.
Passenger Zoona says, “During rise in water level, rainy days, snow and after sunset, we fear for our lives and most of us becomes unable to cross the river.” Zoona further says, months before the work of bridge was resumed again but few days after its work was again stopped in midway.
While talking to Fast Kashmir, residents are demanding now for resumption of work over the bridge as early as possible from concerned authorities.
