Budgam, November 04: After long dryness, Season’s fresh snowfall received by Budgam district damaged the plum orchards of B.K Pora and Chadoora on Saturday.
Almost maximum districts of Kashmir valley witnessed moderate to heavy flakes of snowfall in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
The area where fresh snowfall led the damage of plum orchards received less snow than higher reaches of district Budgam. The area witnessed five to six inch of snowfall.
As per local orchardist, Abdul Rashid says this heavy fresh snow resulted huge loss of their plum orchards due to loads of snow piled up on leaves and branches. He says many of his aged plum trees falls apart and few uprooted.
The swath (B.K Pora and Chadoora) is constituent of dozens of villages such as Khandha, Wagoora, Dooni Wari, Gowharpora, Khutipora, Kozwera, Kanipora, Kanihama, Gangi bagh, Pahroo and many other villages.
It is pertinent to mention here, plums are grown in every part of Kashmir but Budgam’s Kanipora and Chadoora ambits are prominent in plum production in the Kashmir as per official report.
The farmers urges concerned department to delve the ground situation of plum trees and compensate the farmers of such area accordingly.
