Srinagar November 4: Though snowing is a good sign for Kashmir as a whole but today’s early snowfall proved much more damaging.
Most of the standing trees particularly the fruit orchards continue on their bloom and have yet to see the autumn season are badly damaged. The upper reaches of fruit belts particularly the Shopian,Kulgam and Pulwama etc. are yet to harvest the apples. The harvested fruits are lying in the orchards which are bound to get damaged. According a rough estimate the loss amounts more than 1000 crores of rupees to this industry which excludes the devastation caused to the fruit trees.
Moreover, the administration, as usual, was caught unawares resulting in disconnection of most of the rural areas.
Gh.Nabi Malik General Secretary J&K Kisan Tehreek urges upon the govt. that;
1-Ensure the Immediate assessment of damage caused to the people.
2- Provide compensation to all effected people.
3- Implement the crop insurance scheme in Kashmir valley as well and cover the horticulture industry also in this scheme.
4- Clear snow from all link roads as well so that connectivity gets restored.
5-Restore power supply everywhere and ensure LPG and kerosene oil supply in the rural areas as well.
