Srinagar, Nov 28: Train service remained suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where a fresh encounter ensued between militants and security forces in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday morning.
‘We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley today following a fresh advisory received from police this morning,’ a senior railway official told UNI.
He said train service remained suspended on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region since Monday for security reasons. A fresh advisory was received early this morning not to resume train service on this track for security reasons, he said.
‘Today we suspended all train runs on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir track following encounter between militants, holed up in a house at Chattergam , Badgam, and security forces. Train service on this track was normal yesterday,’ he added.
Hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway stations from Baramulla to Banihal tracks, were disappointed after they were informed that all train runs have been suspended today. The passengers alleged that no prior announcement was made about suspension of the train service.
