Youth killed on Eid-ul-Fitr was injured in forces action: Police to SHRC

Srinagar, November 30: The youth from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district who succumbed to his injuries on eve of Eid-ul-Fitr was injured in forces action on June 1+6 this year, admitted police.

The state police in a report submitted to SHRC admitted that a youth Sheeraz Ahmed Naikoo of Anantnag was injured in forces action while dealing with the protestors on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, who later succumbed to his injuries at district hospital Anantnag.

Police admits that Sheeraz was injured when police and other forces fired pellets and tear gas shells to disperse the mob on June 16, 2018.

According to the statement issued to KNO, the police report comes in response to the petition filed by the chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in case SHRC/203/Ang/2018.

The report reads that on June 16, after culmination of Eid prayers at Eidgah Ahlihadith Ashajipora and Eidgah Hanifa Janglat Mandi Anantnag, an unruly mob resorted to stone pelting upon the police forces deployed around the Hanfia Eidgah and police Janglat Mandi.

The report stated that police and other forces tried to disperse the protestors in a peaceful manner but the mob turned more violent and continuously pelted stones on the forces. “The police and other forces in retaliation fired some tear smoke shells/pellets to disperse the miscreants soon the clashes spread to other parts of the town of Anantnag.

It added that one youth namely Sheeraz Ahmed Naikoo of Brakpora, Anantnag received injuries during the stone pelting who was shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

The petitioner said it was good that at least police has accepted that Sheeraz received grave injuries in forces action but the question needs to be answered when police knows how the youth died, it must be knowing the force’s personnel who fired at Sheeraz in violation of the SoP.

“I urge the commission to direct police to fix the responsibility and to identify the police or paramilitary personnel involved in the killing of Sheeraz and to book him as well,” the petitioner says.(KNO)
