People will grill parties that boycotted polls, sabotaged democratic process: BJP

Srinagar, Dec 29: While saying that the party stands for restoration of democratic process in the state, BJP’s J&K in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna Saturday said that they believe in the democratic process and those who boycotted the local bodies’ polls will be questioned by people and were going to face a tough in time ahead.

While talking to Regional News Agency (RNA), Khanna said that the party does not believe in boycott politics as the elections are the foundation of the democratic set-up, “those who boycotted local bodies’ polls, and did not let the internal democracy to flourish will be questioned by the people,” he said.

“They out-rightly rejected the ULB polls, and did not let the grassroots democracy flourish, we did it, even after they boycotted, we ensured peaceful polls and empowered the locals,” he said.

While referring to Home Minster Rajnath Singh’s statement in the Parliament that the Centre favors a democratic process in the state and that it stands for the early elections, Khanna said that any party that believes in the democratic process cannot boycott the polls, “now they have done it, they are answerable to the people, when they will be out seeking votes,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s tweet on NIA has not gone well with the BJP as it said her tweet was irresponsible and was aimed at defaming the NIA.

Khanna while referring to the Mufti’s tweet said that it was irresponsible on her part and indicated they don’t trust the authorities.

“That tweet indicated that she does not trust the authorities, if she was so sure about it, why don’t she come up and take guarantee that she knows them personally; then it would be a different thing,” Khanna said.

Khanna said that in spite of appreciating the timely efforts by NIA, she has chosen to defame the investigative agency, “she should have appreciated what was done by the NIA, and the arms that were recovered imply that those arrested were in the process of doing something big, rather than appreciating that, she is doing the opposite,” he said.(RNA)
