Srinagar, Dec 14: The daring attack on a minority picket by militants have sent security agencies into a tizzy while to prevent further attacks authorities have alerted the security agency officials who are at the helm of affairs.
Official sources told news agency CNS that an has been sounded after the killing of four policemen at Zainapora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Militant attack in Zainapore Shopian left four cops Anees Ahmad Mir, a resident of Souch, Kulgam; Mehraj-u-din, resident of Bandipora; Hamidullah, resident of Anantnag and Abdul Majeed, a resident of Ganderbal dead.
Security agencies have received inputs about the massive presence of militants in Shopian district. On Thursday night, security men guarding the house of PDP leader Aijaz Mir had to fire some shots in air after they allegedly observed the some suspicious movement. Though a police official down played the incident, yet another official while confirming it said that militants are eager to strike heavily after facing successful operations from Government Forces.
A top Army official on condition of anonymity said that militants have started shifting their main base from South to North Kashmir. “We have inputs about the presence of militants in North Kashmir. Militants are eager to create South like situation in North Kashmir,” he said.
Two militants Ovais Ahmed and Tahir Ahmed were killed in Bratkalan Sopore on Thursday. Manan Wani, the top Hizb Commander was also killed in North Kashmir recently.
Another police official said that no doubt Hizbul Mujahideen has larger presence in Kashmir but it is Jaish-e-Muhammad that is key to militancy as this outfit is not only involved in carrying attacks on government forces but have foreign recruits as well.
Sources said that despite facing so much casualties, militants are showing their presence by carrying out random attacks. This year, 235 militants are killed in different operations carried out by security agencies in length and breadth of Kashmir.
