Srinagar, Dec 27: Taking in dip in Directorate of School Education department (DSEK) and civil secretariat Kashmir University’s Alama Iqbal library also banning the Kashmari traditional attire Pheran
For the past few days, authorities of the Alama Iqbal Library are not allowing students to enter the library wearing Pheran. Amid the reports of the banning the Pheran the chief proctor of Kashmir university refuted the reports of banning the Pheran in the Allama Iqbal library .
Zahid a PG student said “The University is situated at the dal bank due to which there is a tremendous chill in the campus for which we need to wear warm clothes and Pheran is best option for that it is unfortunate the library authorities is not allowing us to enter in the library with Pheran”
J&K Students Movement (JKSM) General Secretary, Naveed Bakhtiyar said, “the pheran is our cultural identity and there are many other universities outside the state which allowing the students to wear their cultural dress in the camps but I fail to understand why our University is not allowing us. Such guidelines or orders are direct attack on our culture and it should be revocation immediately”
Talking to the KNB Naseer Iqbal Chief Proctor KU told “that he don’t have any knowledge regarding this matter neither University has issued any formal order on banning of the Pheran within the camps or any particular department”
When contacted to the chief librarian GM Peerzada he said, “That we have not issued any formal order regarding the banning on Pheran but it is the library policy which is already framed by the Dean Academic.
“The Prohibition of Pheran within the library is due to security reasons we have materials other than the books like Computer accessories and the antic scripts which are not traced by the sensors that is why we are not allowing the Pheran within the library but once CCTVs get installed as proposed there will be no restrictions on Pheran” he added
The chief librarian also requests to the students for cooperation. (KNB)
