Qazigund, Jan 15: The commuters in Churat Qazigund village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday staged a protest against the “exorbitant hike” in fares by the transporters. Protestors blocked traffic movement of Qazigund road at Churat village.
They were demanding that transporters are arbitrarily increasing the fares, due to which locals face a lot of problems in traveling to their respective locations .
They blamed that transporters are charging Rs 15 -20 for a distance of 4.5km from Qazigund town to Churat village.
Locals said that actual fare is ten Rupees for the respective distance but Sumo drivers are compelling to pay more.
Meanwhile when contacted ARTO Kulgam, couldn’t be contacted because he was attending a meeting.
