Srinagar, Jan 29: Government Degree College Uri is suffering immensely as the position of the Principal in the college is lying vacant since last one year that has severely hit the academics and documental work.
A delegation of students from the college met the representatives of J&K Students Movement this week and apprising them about their sufferings. The delegation requested the representatives to take up their issues with the higher authorities.
Musharaf, a student of the college said that college is headless for a year now and the authorities have failed to appoint a principal plunging them to face a lot of hardships.
Another student said: “Prospects of the college reads that there are number courses that are available here but the college is yet to enroll the students for the said courses”
“If we have to study the physical education subject, we are told to go to Degree College Baramulla which is almost 50 km from Uri. We being the poor and backward segment of society can’t afford staying or visiting the college in Baramulla daily,” they said.
They also pitched to start the courses like commerce and Physical education subject in Uri College.
Students also claimed that the issues have already been taken up with local administration and representative but all in vain as nobody acted.
Naveed Bukhtiyar, General Secretary J&K Students Movement said: “It’s very shameful even as the governor led administration is not doing well. I request the authorities to solve the issue as early as possible and don’t make the students of remote areas to more sufferings”
