Five Year Ago Inaugurated Health Center Still Defunct In Budgam

Srinagar, Jan 02: A Primary Health Centre (PHC) inaugurated five years ago in Pohru village of Budgam district is lying defunct.

As per the locals, Government started construction of the Primary Health Centre on 24 oct 2014, and after the structure of building was compeleted, the further work was stopped till date.

Residents of the village, have to travel miles for health care centre located at Pampore, due to a non- functional Primary Health Centre in Pohru village.

While talking to KNB, a local resident said, “The construction of multi-story building of the health center has been completed at least two years before but sadly the authorities have been delaying further construction of infra-structure, making a vast population to suffer for necessary health care facilities.”

The foundation of health care center premises spread over almost two to three kanals of land is provided by locals without any compensation.

Sameer, a local said, “We had provided our own land for the construction of health care centre without any compensation, but till date it is not functional, we made several representations to the senior health officials including DC Budgam but they ignored our pleas by saying that further construction will be started soon.”

When Kashmir News Bureau contacted Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Nazir Ahmad regarding this issue, he said, “construction of PHC at Puhru village was stopped due to lack of funds, but now the issue has been resolved and he assured that the further construction will be started in the month of February.”

Despite repeated calls, DC Budgam didn’t respond the call for her comments.(KNB)
