Doda, January 21: A national based NGO “GOONJ” headquartered in Delhi, India which undertakes disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development in parts of 23 states across India visited fire victims at Goha, Marmat in Doda district on Monday.
Goonj focusses on clothing as a basic but unaddressed need. It was founded in 1999 by Anshu Gupta.
Goonj uses the under-utilised and excess urban house hold material as a tool for rural development across 23 states in the country. It thus aims to bring an equitable relationship of strength, sustenance and dignity between the cities and villages. Goonj is continuing to support victims with Blankets Pressurecooker Rice Daal Sugar Biscuits Solar Lights Kitchen ware items including Spoons Plates edible oil kitchen set foot wares clothes and several other daily need items.
Teams from Delhi headed by Swami Raj Bhagat Provincial President Goonj, Block President Goonj Marmat Mohd Syed Khan are assisting in the area.
Tehsildar Marmat Niyaz Ahmed Wani was invited by the NGO Head at Goha Block office to distribute the items to the effected families. They have further said that after the today weather was not favourable so it was difficult to bring sufficient material to the area but whenever the weather will be okay we will bring complete items for every effected house hold. All the widows, orphans and handicaped persons who have no source of income will be provided possible help by Goonj.
Speaking on the occasion Tehsildar Marmat thanked the authorities of Goonj for the efforts of rehabilitation of the deserted families of Tehsil.
Members of Human welfare trust Marmat were also present in the occasion which include, Mudasir Salaria, Hamaietullah Wani Syed Khan and others. All the presentees thanked the NGO for such a humane act.
