Srinagar, Jan 03: Deputy Mayor Shiekh Imran on Thursday urged Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees to call off their strike, stating whosoever will be guilty would be punished under the law of the land.
Addressing a presser at JKPA office here, Imran said SMC employees should refrain from the controversy between Mayor and Deputy Mayor. SMC employees are part and parcel of the system, I have not spoken against them, he said.
“Wherever Junaid Mattu needs me for Srinagar city, I will be always ready for that and I expect same from him,” Imran said. Dictatorships have never succeeded in any part of world and protocol of Deputy Mayor has been interfered several times, he added.
Imran said the mayor should accept the corporators because they have voted for him and solve their problems such as accommodation, vehicles, salary, and other issues.
“I have not defended any councilor but have listened to their pleas, nor I accompanied her to the police station,” Imran said.
He said he is not doing any conspiracy against anyone, adding that finance and planning have been amended through the act. Surprisingly council was in place and three meetings were held, but the committee was delayed through a conspiracy of Mayor.
“After that, I have written a letter to Governor about the incident. At least Mayor has been spoken to his councilors before act was amended. No councilor had the knowledge about the amendment passed on 7th Dec 2018,” Imran said.
He said, he has full faith in democracy and time will prevail justice would be delivered. Regarding claiming of councilors with the Mayor, Imran said it can only be proved through floor test, not with hollow claims.
“If any coporator has done anything wrong, or Mayor has done anything, these things should be sorted out through dialogue, not by agitations,” Imran said.
While responding to an allegation of Mayor of being bank defaulter, Imran said he has paid more than half of that amount. He said he is being deliberately targeted and people know everything about the matter.
“Such tactics will not accept here, we will not fear from these tactics. Kashmiris are struggling their fight from 1947 and change has come with a new narrative,” he said.
He urged SMC employees to call off their strike and resume their duties because people are suffering in the city. I want to work for people and will continue to do so.(KNB)
