Srinagar, Jan 5: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura on Saturday expressed serious concern over the snowfall aftermath, asking the administration to restore connectivity in the far flung areas of Kashmir valley.
Hanjura also expressed concern of the absence of snow clearance machines from the affected areas, stating that majority of the hamlets in Char-e-Sharief and other areas have lost connectivity with the main towns due to the huge accumulation of snow on the roads. He said that it was worrisome to find that the administration is yet to wake up from the slumber to restore power and water supplies and clear snow in state’s far- flung areas.
He said that that men and machinery should have been kept ready to meet any eventuality and that snow-clearance machinery should have been kept in a position of readiness. “Besides that there are mounting complaints that people are facing acute shortage of water and electricity due to which several areas are reeling under distress. Hanjura demanded that the PHE, PDD authorities must create a proper mechanism to ensure services as per the schedule. “Also, I urge the health department to ensure proper sanitation measures in and around the health institutions and adequate stock of medicines for the winter months. There should also be close coordination among different departments for snow clearance operation and prompt response to meet out any emergency during approaching months,” said Hanjura.
