KUPWARA, FEB 07: Despite timely prediction of heavy snowfall, authorities are yet to clear the roads and restore electricity in North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara. On second consecutive day, the commuters in Kupwara town had to face tremendous inconvenience as the authorities here have failed to clear accumulated snow from lanes and by-lanes; many shops were also closed due to heavy snowfall.
However, reports said that men and machinery were pressed in few areas to clear main roads. Complaints of water logging were also received from various areas of town kupwara.
“The melting of snow is causing water logging. Authorities have not placed any arrangements for dewatering, here many shops of Kupwara market were also closed” said Tariq Ahmad, a commuter at Iqbal Market.
“According to our Correspondent Wasim Majnoon Mir, Residents of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district including Kupwara Town and areas of Lolab, Hyhama, Kralpora, Dahama, Shaloora, Trumnad, Budnambal, Chokibal, Kachama and other areas of this frontier district complained that the district administration has failed to clear snow from main roads, let alone interiors. This has badly affected movement of vehicles and pedestrians, they said.”
Residents of Lolab, Hyhama,Kralpora and other Villages said that from the day it started snowing the students of the village were unable to go to tuitions.
Many Villages of this frontier district are reeling under darkness for the past many weeks. Power Development Department also has failed to restore electricity in main town kupwara and other areas from last two days.
It’s pertain to mention here that roads to border towns of Karnah, Keren and Machil areas with district headquarters have been closed form last one month, days before was open for one-day traffic on both sides of Karnah-Kupwara.
