Family Seeks Return Of Mortal Remains

Kupwara, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Monday held function to observe the 35th martyrdom anniversary of its founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat. Bhat was hanged on the 11th of February in 1984 for his leading role in Kashmir liberation movement.

A spokesman of JKLF said Kashmir’s living across the globe organized several meetings, protests and rallies today to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of their leader.

“Last evening people in large number witnesses a candle light protest in Trehgam, the hometown of JKLF founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, on Monday also witnessed massive protests to mark his 35th death anniversary. The hundreds of people, including women, children and Bhat’s family member took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans. They were demanding return of his mortal remains and handing over to Mohammad Maqbool Bhat’s family.”

The JKLF Spokesman said that New Delhi should remember that they couldn’t end the freedom struggle of Kashmiri’s by sending Bhat to gallows. People offered congregational Fateh-a-Khawani for the martyrs at Mazar-e Shuda at Trehgam and others areas of Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile Kupwara were witnessed a complete shutdown in response to the strike call over the Maqbool Bhats Anniversary. All shops were closed and traffic movement was badly affected were Normal life was disrupted in Kupwara due to the strike. Shops, banks and business establishments were closed due to the strike.

The roads in Kupwara wore a deserted look as public and private transport remained off the roads .curfew like situation was seen in this district .Heavy forces,Police and CRPF men’s were deployed at several places in town Kupwara and other towns as well. The shutdown was also observed in some other areas of this frontier district Kupwara.
