Srinagar, 05 Feb: Uncovered manhole has created fear to commuters of Habak and Naseembagh as R&B Department failed to cover them up.
Residents have expressed concern over the open manholes and requested the government to address the problem in the city and its adjoining areas. They believe it poses a threat to their lives, particularly at night when visibility is low.
According to Locals, open manholes pose a threat to the lives of Commuters motorists and pedestrians, but unfortunately the district administration has not taken measures to cover them up. Despite repeated complaints by the citizens, the matter is yet to be resolved.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau local resident of habbak said, “Manholes have been established as one of the main elements of urban engineering to avoid inundation of roads but around a dozen manholes from bus-stand hazratbal to habbak budshah gate are uncovered which pose a lot of risk to commuters.”
“Waste material and garbage has been dumped into manholes which causes harmful diseases and several times we approached authorities but it seems that officials were not interested in these small issues” Sumaya another local said.
Narrating the story, Umer a student said, “ My leg got stuck inside and I received multiple injuries and got stitches in my foot due to the presence of steel like element present.”
“Since it comes under the Deparment of R&B and it is depressing on their part that they are paying deaf ear towards it which is of a great concern for people both young and old, “the uncovered manholes is causing a lot of trouble to people especially old and kids,” he said.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau Assistant Executive Engineer Division Showkat Ahmad said, “As you have brought this matter to our notice, I will personally look into it and in few days we will take up the work.”
