Protests held in London and Brussels against incarceration of JKLF chairman Yasin Malik and others

JKLF Zonal President Noor Muhammad Kalwal Arrested by Police.

Srinagar, 30 April:  Zonal president of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Noor Muhammad Kalwal has been arrested by police and lodged at police station Kothi-Bagh Srinagar. It is pertinent to mention that JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik is already in incarceration from last three months and lodged at Tihar Jail Delhi these days. His already fragile health has deteriorated considerably from last few weeks and before his shifting to Tihar Jail he was admitted at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for many days. It is also worth to mention that JKLF leader Sheikh Nazir is serving a life sentence at Kot-balwal jail Jammu where as senior leaders Zahoor Ahmad Butt and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri are too serving PSA at different jails since long.

While condemning the arrest of Zonal President Noor Muhammad Kalwal and prolonging the incarceration of others, JKLF chief spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Dar has said that suppressing political dissent by banning organizations, arresting political leaders, activists, scholars and businessmen, using agencies like NIA and ED and colonial type laws and tactics to prolong their incarceration is nothing but travesty of justice and democracy. He said that despite oppression unleashed by Indian state, tactics of luring, bullying and intimidating common Kashmiris, political engineering  and handcuffing the whole resistance camp, people of Kashmir have unanimously boycotted Indian elections and thus rejected the illegal occupation and oppression of India. He said that boycott of about 90 percent people of Kashmir should serve as an eye opener to the Indian leadership, politicians, biased media and oppressive forces as this is the democratic verdict of the people of Kashmir. JKLF spokesman said that putting political leaders, activists, religious scholars and civil society members in jails can never succeed in suppressing the voices for freedom of Kashmiris who have resolved to keep on striving for their right to self-determination and achieve this sacred goal at every cost.

Meanwhile JKLF protests against illegal detention of JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and others, banning of JKLF, shifting JKLF ailing chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik to Tihar jail Delhi and torturing him, and other oppressive measures unleashed by Indian state against unarmed Kashmiris  continues in many cities of the world. JKLF United Kingdom (UK) has organized a five day long sit-in, outside Indian Embassy in London in this connection. The dharna is led by Professor Raja Zafar Khan (diplomatic bureau chief JKLF), Syed Tahseen Geelani (Zonal President), Liaqat Lone (Gen. Secretary), Javed Ahmed (Finance Sec.) and others. While giving the details of dharna, the spokesman said that the dharna has entered in the second day as it started yesterday on 29th April and will continue for five days. Furthermore, the JKLF European Union (EU) Zone also organized a protest demonstration outside the Indian High Commission in Brussels. The protest was led by the newly elected Zonal President Choudhry Tanveer, Senior Vice President Mushtaq Pasha, Zonal Gen. Sec. Zaheer Zahid, Belgiun Branch President Mushtaq Ali Dewan and other senior zonal party leaders. They demanded immediate release of party chairman Yasin Malik, lifting of Ban on JKLF and appealed international community to intervene and use their offices to save Yasin Malik and other politically detained or jailed pro-freedom Kashmiris. The protesters raised slogans in favor of freedom of Kashmir and against Indian aggression on Kashmiri people.
