Security withdrawn from Congress leader who unfurled tricolor during 2016 agitation in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 3: State Secretary for Congress Party Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan Wednesday staged a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar accusing Governor and Police administration of endangering the lives of those who vehemently and openly support India in volatile Kashmir.

Khan who contested 2014 Assembly Election from Eidgah Srinagar constituency told news agency CNS that despite CID report that states anti-national elements can pose threst to his life, administration withdrew security from him, thus exposing him to risk.

“When they (GoI) need you, security cover is given to you but once they achieve their objective, security is withdrawn from you. I was encouraged for unfurling Indian tri-colour during 2016 Kashmir agitation in Srinagar. It was a time, then even policemen were scared to move on roads. But alas! today I was sidelined and my life was exposed to risk,” Khan said.

While displaying the copy of CID report that asks government to provide security to him, Imtiyaz Khan said that he fails to understand why security was withdrawn for him. “Governor Administration is backed and supported by BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. For being a leader of Congress party, I am paying the price. BJP is least concerned about the patriots but they play politics and harass their opponents,” he said.

Khan said that BJP will be responsible if anything untoward happens to him.

He added that besides him, security cover from various Congress leaders including Shameema Raina who hails from volatile Narwara area of Srinagar city has been withdrawn.
