Forest officials raid five illegal saw mills in Bhaderwah, seized illegal materials

Doda, May 26: Acting on the basis of specific information, search operation was conducted on five premises in and around Bhaderwah town under the supervision of Conservator of Forests Chenab Circle B. Mohan Daas, DFO Bhaderwah Alok Kumar Maurya, ASP Bhaderwah Raj Singh Gouriya, Deputy Director FPF Mohinder Kumar, Range Officer Neru Haroon Khan, Range Officer Chiralla Shafqat Mehmood assisted by the staff of Forest Department, Police Department, Forest Protection Force and CRPF were leading the teams carrying out the searches.

During the searches, significant amount of mechanised illegal primary saw mill machinery including wood cutters along with sawn timber was seized from the spots and brought to the depot of DFO Bhaderwah office. The search party has also taken cognizance of illegal primary saw mills being operated by Harish kKotwal S/o late Kishori kotwal R/o Udrana, Ayaz Ahmed Sheikh S/o late Abdul Amid Shiek R/o Ghata , Mohd ramzan batt S/o late Habibulla Butt R/o Udhrana, Ghansham Singh S/o Late Madholal Manhas R/o Sartingal, Sanjeet Singh Manhas S/o Gansham singh Manhas, Mohd Iqbal S/o Mohd Abdullah R/o Chakka, Nisar Ahmed S/o Late Gulam Nabi Peer R/o Sarthingal.

As per the SRO-103 of 2012, Wood based industries including Primary and secondary saw mills cannot be installed except on the approval of State Level Committee Headed by Pr. Chief Conservator of Forests Jammu and Kashmir. Further as per Supreme Court guidelines no wood based industries can be established with in 8 Km aerial distance from nearby demarcated Forest area. The units violating the express provisions of SRO and Supreme Courts directions can be seized and confiscation proceedings under Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act can be initiated.

During the raid, stiff resistance was faced by the officials and due to timely intervention of police, Central Reserve Police and district administration, all the illegal material were seized and reported before court of Authorised Officer (DFO Bhaderwah) to initiate the confiscation proceedings under Sec 26 of JK Forest act and relevant provisions of SRO 103 of 2012 related to wood based Industries in Jammu and Kashmir.
