Says government’s claim of bringing peace to Kashmir lay bare in the wake of continuous human rights violations committed against the people
Srinagar, 27 May: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday asserted that the unwavering claim of the incumbent governor on bringing peace to Kashmir lay bare in the wake of continuous human rights violations committed against the people, saying that incessant excesses against the people will not help improve the situation.
Addressing party functionaries and workers here at party head quarters, Nawa- e –Subha party General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar said, “On one hand we see the honorable governor making tall claims about protecting human rights in Kashmir and on the other hand we see abject inaction on behalf of the incumbent governor administration against excesses by forces. One fails to understand how the anticipated goal of achieving long term peace in valley will be materialized if people continue to face intimidation and other excesses. In any working constitutional democracy it is rather imperative for the government to uphold the fundamental rights as have been assured to all by the constitution. There is no accountability on ground in this part of the world. The issue of human rights violations is further complicated by the impunity it seemingly enjoys.”
Party general secretary while taking a potshot at incumbent governor administration over the persistent human rights violations said, “The other day thrashing of women by forces in Tral was widely reported by local dailies. In some hamlets people continue to face curbs on their day to day lives. The other day news reports had it that seven minors were detained in the Soibugh locality of central Kashmir following some incident of stone pelting. However following the protest held by locals two boys out of the seven were let off badly injured. One of the injured has been referred to SKIMS and his condition is said to be critical. Amidst all this we don’t see governor administration taking cognizance of the accesses committed by the forces in this particular case. The district administration and the state machinery seemingly have shut its eyes to the mounting woes of people. The incumbent governor administration has miserably failed to provide sense of security to the people.”
While underscoring the need of constituting time bound inquiry into such cases of intimidation Sagar said, “I impress upon the governor administration to inquire into the incident that took place at Soibugh, meantime I also request the honorable Governor to issue directions to the concerned civil, police and other agencies for upholding civilian rights. The administration should put the facts before the public and ensure that unruly forces personnel are reprimanded,” adding, “The boy who has been hospitalized at SKIMS should be given best of medical treatment. I pray for his speedy recovery.”
While expressing concern over the spur in the incidents of targeted violence against minorities in the country party general secretary said, “The makers of Indian constitution gave a progressive, liberal and secular constitution to India. Now it is the duty of the present government to uphold and cherish the ideals of the constitution of India. I condemn such targeted violence against Muslims especially the one that enfolded in Gurugram for wearing a Skull Cap. Nation building is a day to day job, incidents like these does not augur well for a democratic set up like that of ours. The perpetrators of the crime should be reprimanded and sent to gallows so as it acts as a deterrent for future.”
Among others provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior leader Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Ali Muhammad Dar, Shameema Firdous, and Pir Muhammad Hussain were also present in the meet. The leaders urged the incumbent administration to ensure rule of law in the state.
Meanwhile party’s chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Senior leader Aga Mehmood has also condemned the Soibugh incident and have sought a thorough investigation into the matter.
