Srinagar,23 July: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday asserted that the incumbent governor of the state was more political than constitutional, saying the unfortunate statements emanating from Raj Bhawan are adding to the disenchantment among youth towards democratic setup.
Addressing a gathering of workers, functionaries’ party’s Srinagar district president Pir Afaq said, “The people in the state of Jammu and kashmir, particularly the youth are already disenchanted towards democratic set. The way the mandate of the people was berated and belittled by the former PDP-BJP government has increased the disenchantment of youth towards the democratic process. However we have a governor in the Raj Bhawan that has undaunted disdain for the democracy and the political process. The penchant of the incumbent state governor for political muddling is rather a point of concern for us. we have a governor who has put the constitution on a slippery slope. The continuous jibes of the incumbent governor against the politicians of the state explicitly reveals as to which side of the political divide he belongs to. Unfortunately ever since he was deputed to the state as Governor he has been over-involved with controversies be it declaring the name of the Mayor of Srinagar much before the elections to SMC were held. His over indulgence in mudslinging is reflective of the fact that he is covertly supporting one political out fit in the state as are hell bent to destroy the state’s identity from within.”
Afaq said that the governor’s discretion cannot be fanciful. “It does not behoove a person sitting on a constitutional post to hoodwink people by playing politics. The people cannot take it anymore. How can we think of having free and fair elections in the state, if such a governor around who is so negatively predisposed towards the major political parties and political leaders of the state. Who is he representing in the state? Why is so proactively enumerating his so called accomplishments in local dailies?” he said.
